progress report

So I finally got to remove the bandage that the hospital put on my finger and I find that some of it has hardened and is stuck to my stitches. I think it look hot. I really do. Now that I see it I really should have just duct tapped it shut and called it a day. Duct tape... the poor mans cure for open wounds.

Not Xmas without getting a really dumb injury

So here I am trying to wrap presents when BOOM!! I cut my finger like a real idiot. How do I do it? Well friends if there is a way somebody can hurt themselves in the most ridiculous way possible it is me. So as I try not to spill blood all over my friends really nice house I realize that for the past two to three weeks my friend has been hassling me to get Health  Insurance. And you know what.... I blame him for jinxing me!! If it wasn't for him putting it out there, none of this would have happened! Now I get to wear this lovely bandage, that god only knows how much that's gonna cost me, for two days (its gonna slip off while I sleep). So I will have a nice new scar to add to my list this Christmas. Yay!! Happy Holidays kids I hope everybody gets what they want this year!

Best Beast Ever!

My nephew Lucas drew this for me. Its a drawing of the first X-man to be an Avenger (forget the furry canadian Wolverine) The Beast!! I love it.

Look out its a... small snow monster? Huh?

So I have made my first snowman. It only took 30 or so years to finally do it and here it is. Now I would like to state that I wanted to go the whole nine with my snowman but my nephew has an even shorter attention span than I do so we just made a small one and yes me being me I had to try to make him into something other that a regular snowman.... So I made a baby T-rex (it even had a tail) Look at the attention to detail people!! I used dirty snow to give it yellow teeth! Awesome right?! I know!

I also did some sledding for like 3 hours. Got some film of it someplace. Loved every minute of it.

He came from outer space

Here is the finished piece of Hawkman. Does anybody remember the cartoon that was done in the sixties? They released the DVD of it some months back. He had this glove that did some cool stuff (much like Space Ghost's Bands) like heat ray, force blast and shields. I wish they would give him that now. I mean he is supposed to be a hawkman from both gold and silver ages, give'm some space weapons damn it!! So here he is with his trusty Space Mace and his Talon Glove ready to bust heads from any galaxy with a smile on his face.

PS this is what he looked like in the cartoon

Birds of a feather...

Here are some sketches of The Winged Warrior Hawkman!

Spitfire

And to continue my love fest for English superheroes (even though she was created by Americans Roy Thomas and Frank Robbins) I bring you the Invader's speedster Lady Falsworth AKA Spitfire. Another great character getting the love and attention she deservers in the new Captain Britain comic. Thanks for looking

Its a bird... with a mace?

Ok its not a mace he is carrying but you get what I mean. Felt like doing a rough sketch of my favorite flyer Hawkman. Not really happy with how the right arm came out, doesnt match the right wing (or is it the other way around?).

Who needs Lancelot?!

Now I have always liked Mr Dane Whitman otherwise known as The Black Knight. Lately people have been just messing the poor boys history all up to hell. Am I the only one who read Heroes for Hire when Dane was on the team with his new Avalon armor and weapons? He was actually good. No scratch that he was great! He wasn't just some guy with a sword that he only hit people with the flat side and crap like that, not some dude with a kmart lightsaber and a bad lorenzo lamas look, but grew into a major player. But that was soon forgotten and he was again delegated to being a dude with an ebony sword (still not sure if its the original or not). But it seems that in Captain Britain and MI13 that his Avalon powers might be back. A Light shield to go with his ebony blade... brilliant! Seriously its so simple its perfect. Now if the horse he is flying on is his from Heroes for Hire then we are set (I mean it could fly underwater or in outerspace and could reach mach 1 for crying out loud! MAGIC HORSES RULE) Anyway here is Dane in his new look with some minor tweaks. Thanks for looking, opinions are welcomed.

Long time no post..

It has been a long time since I posted anything I had to do something or I was going to explode. I wanted to do something that had nothing to do with my stuff so I chose to do one of my favs Captain Britain. I love the new book but I find his costume a bit lacking. But they write him so well Im giving it a try. This piece is going to be part of a bigger one featuring many of Britain's heroes.

Will I ever be satisfied?!

Since her creation there is no character that has given me more pain and stress then Zoe Thunder. Every time I think I got it down she just becomes this mess and I start going in circles with her. Well once again I think I might be done with her. She is the other-dimensional daughter of Senora Sol and Zack Thunder and I just needed a little bit more of her mom in the design. Critiques are always welcomed.

Captain my captain

Here is my Captain Neutron piece. As you can see the captain is having some trouble at a far off space station having been double crossed by Venus D'milo and now surrounded by (from left to right) former Hollywood actor turned intergalactic rogue Daring Dirk, Venus' robot butler Geese, and the Atlantian criminal L'Yne (without his two comrades Hook and Sinker). Now I know it looks like he is over is head, but if you look carefully you can see a smile on his face because he just took over Geese's systems (I mean he is the smartest man in the universe, taking over a robot butler is a walk in the park people) and make his escape. Alpha meets Omega

Here is some action in Washington DC with my patriotic hero Alpha the All-American. The villains she beating on are (from left to right) Hitech crooks IQ & Hardrive, the alien princess Scarab, and the robot without a head is Armored Dilo. The Giant robot without a head is Ogun god of iron (what can I say... I like my robots without their heads this week). The man with the gun is Alpha's brother Omega (he treats criminals a little harsher than others). Next up is Captain Neutron, thanks.

Zoe take two

Like I said earlier in the week I wasnt completely happy with how some of my posts turned out last week. So I revisited my Zoe piece and I changed the background and the positions of some of the characters as well as swapped out Ace and Hotstreak for Crash & Burn. I think it works a lot better than the last version. Now I can concentrate on the Alpha piece.

Hand of Fate Redux

I didn't like the backgrounds for the last couple of updates I did so I have gone back and redone them. I think it looks a lot better. I am currently fixing Zoe thunders background as I am doing a new one featuring Alpha. That one is all inked I just have to color and post, but it will be done after Zoe is fixed. Let me know if this looks better than the original. As always thanks for lookin'

It came from outerspace!

Here is my sorceress of The Allies Senora Sol. Now here villains are usually your average mad magicians, crazy archeologists bent on destroying all technology, demons and devils of various beliefs but today I wanted her to go up against a non magical villain. And so she is defending her city from the insane Astronut and the giant robot Gar'gan-Tuan from the planet Brob'dingnag. Not sure who's gonna be next... right now it's a toss up between Alpha and Captain Neutron. hmmm.....

It just keeps going and going....

Now we have The Hand of Fate being attacked by a band of assassins, but as you can see he doesn't seem all that worried. From the bottom and going clockwise we have Blut (of the Nazi duo Blut & Eisen), SpiderWasp, The Ying Yang Man, Iguana, and the poor slob getting his face tenderized is Highroller. I'm not really happy with the perspective of Fate's right arm but...... Next up is Senora Sol!

Cant stop... must keep drawing

I liked the Zoe piece so much I just kept going. Here we have Coyote and Tarantula being ambushed by (clockwise) Dragokin, Sludge, and Watts. I'm currently working on a piece that will feature Hand of Fate. Thanks for lookin'

Here comes the boom!

Finally an update! I have taken a day off and decided to draw something thats been in my head for the last couple of days. Its Zoe Thunder laying down the smackdown on a couple of villains from Force Inc. The villains featured are (going clockwise) El Gigante, Ace of Spades, Diamond Jack, Hotstreak, and the bulky armored guy is ShellShock. Enjoy!

Another Nova

I have been swamped with work for awhile now and I have not even been able to draw anything. So today after concluding some projects I took some time out and did some quick sketches. Here is one of those sketches colored in photoshop. Just a fast piece to loosen the fingers. I am not totally happy with my look for Nova... I still gotta find my style with the character. I'll keep trying.

Superman- Man of style entry

So here is my Superman - Man of Style entry over at Project:Rooftop. Now I was just supposed to change the costume but then I went and changed him altogether. I went with the "Man of Tomorrow" tagline that Supes has got and made him more of an old pulp sci-fi hero. Landing on our planet as an infant the boy who would be called Clark Kent would grow up to understand he was different from the other kids... he was faster, stronger, smarter, and was able to move objects with his mind. Building a suit from the remains of his kryptonian ship, that was powered by solar energy (it was powered by his mind but one of the judges said the bubbles coming out of his chest and hands looked like solar energy and you know what, that just sounds better) he became Superman. Oh and if you notice Clark looks really skinny as a reporter 'cause he was supposed to be that way so when he became Superman it was an actual transformation, kinda like the hulk putting on pounds when he changes. His mind would augment his body adding muscle mass and enhancing his strength and speed. So I dont think I'm gonna win this one cause its just too removed from the actual Supes but I really had a fun time coming up with this one. A lot of fun.

The winner will be announced on Monday at Pulpsecret.com. So we'll see if we get lucky.

Paul Pelletier is a god!!

Been out of town so no new updates right now but I just had to give a shout out to this artist Paul Pelletier. He's one of my favorite artists and I hope my pages can look a fraction as good as his. If you haven't checked out his runs in Exiles, Nova, Fantastic Four, or in his current job as penciler on Guardians of the Galaxy do it right now, don't wait, just go. GO, DAMN YOU, GO!! I posted some pages from Nova and Guardians... enjoy

Some more quickies for the rest of the insomniacs out there.

I dont know what it is lately but the night is really my days. So I was watching the office and one of my favorite is when Jim comes in dressed as Dwight. So to start off this update here is the sketch I did. Not sure how I feel about it. Needed to make the neck way thinner...

Next up is a Bruce Timm'ish' Valkyrie from the Defenders one of my favorite ladies from one of my favorite groups

And finally everyone's favorite angerball The Incredible Hulk.

As always thanks for looking.

Silver Age, how I miss thee..

So I have been in a little bit of a Silver Age mood lately. I just love how some of those characters were so campy and just over the top, and I wanted to see if I could come up with a couple that had that kind of feel to them. Hope I succeeded.

First up is former NASA pilot The Astro-Nut! Once a respected Astronaut who was manning an experimental one man shuttle when an accident sent him deep into space presumed lost forever. He returned some years later empowered with vast cosmic powers and driven insane by the years of wandering the blackness of space. He might act silly but he is very capable of taking some of the most powerful superhero groups.

Next is the princess of a vast intergalactic empire named by reporters when she arrived on earth in the fifties as Venus D'milo. She has tried on several occasions to marry or enslave the man called Captain Neutron and armed with her other-wordly charms and armor she has brought many men to their knees over the years.

Why is it that every time we experiment on monkeys they become homicidal maniacs? Well, Powder Monkey would tell you but he would much rather throw one of his hand bombs to make his point. I got big plans for this little fella.

Last is Jackie Frost, former supermodel who wanted to stay young so bad she spent millions to make her immortal. But the experiments had side effects and now she cant go out in weather above 10 degrees below freezing without wearing her specialized suit.

Thanks for looking
