Silver Age, how I miss thee..

So I have been in a little bit of a Silver Age mood lately. I just love how some of those characters were so campy and just over the top, and I wanted to see if I could come up with a couple that had that kind of feel to them. Hope I succeeded.

First up is former NASA pilot The Astro-Nut! Once a respected Astronaut who was manning an experimental one man shuttle when an accident sent him deep into space presumed lost forever. He returned some years later empowered with vast cosmic powers and driven insane by the years of wandering the blackness of space. He might act silly but he is very capable of taking some of the most powerful superhero groups.

Next is the princess of a vast intergalactic empire named by reporters when she arrived on earth in the fifties as Venus D'milo. She has tried on several occasions to marry or enslave the man called Captain Neutron and armed with her other-wordly charms and armor she has brought many men to their knees over the years.

Why is it that every time we experiment on monkeys they become homicidal maniacs? Well, Powder Monkey would tell you but he would much rather throw one of his hand bombs to make his point. I got big plans for this little fella.

Last is Jackie Frost, former supermodel who wanted to stay young so bad she spent millions to make her immortal. But the experiments had side effects and now she cant go out in weather above 10 degrees below freezing without wearing her specialized suit.

Thanks for looking

The Widow

Here is the leader of The Web, the terrorist group I posted last week, The Widow. I tried a lot of different color schemes for her greens, reds, purples, ect... but a friend suggested trying her in just black, grey and white and I think it works pretty well. Critiques are welcomed.

The Widow is an immortal who was born in Atlantis when it was still a continent in the Atlantic ocean. She began as a common girl who caught the eye of one of the royal family and within months was married to the king himself. She started an uprising when she assumed control over Atlantis after killing her husband. She destroyed Atlantis and herself when she activated a doomsday device. But she didn't die, she was resurrected. Again and again she was reborn and each time she would try to assume control over what she thought was hers. Ahhotep I- founder of the eighteenth dynasty in Egypt, Fu Hao military general and high priestess of the Shang Dynasty, Sarmatian queen Amage during the 4th century B.C., Julia Domna empress and wife of Roman Emperor Lucius Septimius Severus and Morgan Le Fey half-sister of King Arthur are just a few of the names she has had through the millennia.

Now just as in Atlantis she was reborn as a peasant girl who caught the eye of the warlord in China named The Dragon Lord. After some years as one of his many wives she was able to kill him (as well as his other wives) and take control of his empire as The Widow.

The World Wide Web

Originally the Circle of the Dragon created by The Dragon Lord in the early 1920's, the group had been recently taken over and changed by his 137th wife, now called The Widow, when she killed him. Now called The Web, it boasts some of the most technologically advanced systems and soldiers the world has ever seen. The groups only goal is world domination through fear and intimidation and they have made it clear they will not stop until their goals are met. The Widow herself has not been seen in public but her soldiers and operatives are shown below.

The first of the Widow's soldiers is her best and most feared warrior, Wolf Spider. Her second in command, he is always by her side and is only sent out on the missions of the most importance. He commands the Huntsmen the main infantry of the terrorist group.

The Huntsmen are the infantry of The Web. Armed with Kinetic Blasters and the most sophisticated body armor and gear, they are a force feared throughout the world.

The general of the air infantry is Dragonfly. Once a respected pilot who was crippled during a crash, he was brought to The Widow and genetically altered, and given a suit so he can fly at speeds exceeding mach 3. With his ability to generate heat blasts that can melt steel like butter he is by far the most feared flyer in the skies.

The Fireflies are the air-force of The Web. Armed with Heat Blasters and housed in a suit capable of high altitude maneuvers and super sonic speeds, the Fireflies can handle most fighter jets in the air.

Last is The Widow's spy/assassin, Spiderwasp.

Atlantis rising

Just some sketches of my villains from Atlantis cause as everybody knows... you gotta have Atlantian villains or nobody will take you seriously. Im trying to go in a different direction than just some humanoids with blue skin or looking like Abe Sapien from Hellboy. The idea is that Atlantians are a very diverse race with some looking like jellyfish, reptiles, and fish. And when they are not in their city they move about in exoskeleton suits designed for their particular class sect. Still in the eraly stages so...

More villains than you can shake a stick at

Last week a posted a sketch of a character of mine called Dragokin, here is the finished product.
He belongs to a group of superhumans who work for the highest bidder, Force Inc. Bodyguards, thieves, sabotage, ect... Force Inc. is the group you trust to get the job done!

Dragokin son of a Celestial Dragon gone bad.

Watts the living lightning bolt.

Headcase the madman with vast mental powers.

Shellshock, a mercenary with an armored suite capable of creating earthquakes.

And Sludge, second generation baddie with a specialty for industrial sabotage.

Its a big group so I'm still working on some of them. Thanks for lookin'

Feel a STORM coming?

So I wasn't completely happy with my STORM agents before. The head gear was too "Nighthawk", so I wanted to go with the hooded look I had for them a ways back. Top are the officers, middle is infantry, and the bottom is heavy artillery. More baddies on the way...

Beware! Ragnarok is coming!!!

Ragnarok is a terrorist group bent on bringing the world to the brink of destruction by any means possible. Conquest, war, famine... CHAOS!! Its the name of the game. Here are some of the members.

Centuries ago gods and giants fought over the fate of the world. In the end Earth survived unscathed but the gods and their world was lost. Only a chosen few survived to tell the tale... one did not handle it well. His name was Baldur god of light and beauty. You see it was his death the beckoned the start of the war and when it was over he was reincarnated and left to deal with his home and family being destroyed and him unable to fight alongside them. This guilt twisted the god of light until he came to think that Earth was not worth the price paid by his people. Over the centuries he has found and killed other survivors and added their strength to his own waiting until the time he can bring this world down in burning chaos. And then came Hitler, using the Nazi movement as a spring board Baldur going by the name of simply The Baron created the secret sect that was in charge of experiments both occult and scientific. He was responsible for many horrors and was convinced he would finally make our world pay like his did. BUT THEN THE NAZI'S LOST. He disappeared to for a time and realized he could do more harm by using the system man created against itself. Business was the new battlefield and Baldur would rule it. Now using his fortune he has once agin started to plague the world with chaos. He will be vindicated and this world will pay.

Blut is the result of genetic manipulation by the German's who were trying to create super soldiers by splicing the human DNA with that of vampires that the Nazi's had captured. Out of the 300 volunteers only one survived the process. Taking the name Blut she would become the top assassin for Germany and close partner to the ghost knight Eisen who she would come to call her older "brother". When the war ended she was presumed dead during an air raid. What had actually happened is unclear but she was found by Baldur living on the streets in a small town in Lithuania. Once he helped her regain her memory she pledged her undying devotion to him and his dreams of chaos.

Eisen is actually a result of the Nazi's experiments with the occult. They tried to create an army of undead soldiers that could fight endlessly for the cause, but what they got was a disembodied spirit who inhabits a indestructible suit of armor and only craves one thing.... WAR!! When the war ended Eisen was trapped until he was released by his "sister" Blut to serve Ragnarok.

No Nazi group would be complete without a mad scientist and so here he is! At first a toy maker with his father in a small village in Germany, his life would be changed forever when Berlin would start its bid to take over the world. His skill with mechanics helped create many destructive machines for the Nazi's. When the war ended he went underground escaping to South America. As he got older his body parts were replaced with mechanical ones until finally he was encased in his own exoskeleton body. Now more machine than man he works for Ragnarok as their resident scientist and machinesmith, ThinkTank!

These guys are called The Storm they are the soldiers of Ragnarok. Its said they are made from the bodies of dead soldiers who have died during the many wars around the world, dug up and reanimated to serve their new masters. Or that they were genetically created from the genetic material from the sons of Thor the thunder god, Magni and Modi, who Baldur killed so many centuries ago. Whatever their real origin is, the one thing all can agree upon is, their lethal and precise attacks makes them one of the most feared soldiers on the planet.

As always thanks for lookin'.

Is that a new suit?

Here is the golem that I introduced last week in his new threads as Geb Graystone Paranormal Investigator. He acts as the figure head and muscle for the detective agency started by his creator, novice witch Maxine. Input is, as always, welcomed. Thanks

Maxine is a wizard in training who used her powers during an other-dimensional invasion to awaken the original golem created to protect the Jews from their Egyptian masters centuries ago. More DC revisions

I'm on this DC Comics kick lately... so I decided to try out redesigning a character that just doesn't seem to find his right place in the Batman mythos, Nightwing. The original Robin has had his ups and downs and has sometimes proven that he isn't Batman-lite but more often than not he is written as this brooding character and I just have a problem with that. First and foremost unlike any of the other sidekicks of his generation he was not a miniature version of his mentor (like Kid-Flash or Wonder Girl) he was his own person. Happy and comfortable with who he was and what he was. So when Teen Titans turned him into Nightwing I loved it. But then something happened... HE LOST HIS WAY. He became this guy who didn't do quick jokes and instead tried to be the man, in his youth, he didn't want to be.... Batman! So I think if he was to be the next Batman he would do it with a little more flair like when George Perez first drew him as Nightwing. MIne is a little more streamlined than George's but not so minimalist like his current costume. I also gave him back his wings, he was after all a high flying grayson back in the circus so I wanted him to be able to fly as high as he wanted. The belt and gauntlets have his little gadgets and hold his main weapons the Escrima Sticks. Now it is said he has a stun gun in one of his gauntlets in his current costume but I wanted that to be added to the sticks, so he can take on supers with a little bit of an edge. The goggles are for night-vision and heads up display. Hope you guys like.
Next up is the original Wonder Girl herself Donna Troy. Although I love her George Perez design (until she became Troia) I wanted to try one the said "toga"... more Amazon. I gave her back her ponytail, kinda retro crap that I love. I wanted her bracelets to be more like gauntlets so that they could give her hits a little more power for her hands. And of course her nose and skin were changed a little to more reflect her Greek heritage. I didn't want her to be a slimmer version of Wonder Woman or use that black star outfit they keep putting her in, but I wanted to stay close to her original look and her first look as Wonder Girl during the Perez/Wolfman Teen Titans.
Again thanks again for looking and I hope you enjoyed my drawings and at least tolerated my ramblings. Laters
